A recipe is not a plus upgrade
Making an item from a recipe and reinforcing an existing piece of equipment are different tasks. The alchemy materials workbench is for manufacture recipes: socket stones, job equipment, siege items and advanced alchemy materials. It does not calculate the chance of adding a plus to a weapon.
Start by choosing the recipe for the item you intend to make. Check its name and output before collecting ingredients. Recipes from different quality bands can have similar names while consuming different materials. A result with the right icon is not enough to identify the recipe.
Choose one ingredient where alternatives are offered
Some recipes accept one material from a group of alternatives. Those rows are choices, not a demand to bring every listed ingredient. The required quantity can also differ between alternatives, so compare both the item and its amount.
For the Lowest Quality Socket Stone of Gold Recipe, choose one ingredient in each of the Element level 1, Element level 2 and Element level 3 controls. The element families can differ between levels: Earth at level 1, Fire at level 2 and Water at level 3 is one valid combination. The Required with every attempt group still adds the Token Artisan's Magic Stone requirement. Other socket recipes may show only one element level; complete the controls displayed for that recipe.
Leave an alternative unselected while you compare what you already own. The workbench will not silently pick an ingredient or present the remaining list as a complete attempt. Once every choice is made, the combined quantities become the material plan.
Count attempts, not guaranteed successes
Set Attempts to the number of times you plan to use the recipe. Each required quantity is multiplied by that number. This is a preparation calculation, not a promise that the same number of finished items will be produced.
Read the output list separately from the ingredient total. Several listed outputs do not mean that every output is awarded on every attempt. The material plan deliberately makes no prediction about success probabilities, bonus copies or what remains after a failed attempt.
When deciding how much to buy, keep materials you already own in mind. Planning every possible alternative at once overstates the requirement. Planning a guaranteed finished quantity from an unknown success rate understates the uncertainty.
Group the materials into a purchase plan
Use Plan these materials after completing the alternative choices. It opens the shopping plan with the required item quantities. Opening the same material link again does not add another batch. If your plan already has a larger quantity, it keeps that amount; if the recipe needs more, the quantity increases.
The shopping plan separates an unknown price from a real zero price. A material with no known purchase cost does not make the whole attempt free. Sellers opens the listed NPC stock for that item. When a row says No NPC seller listed, open the item name for its details and any linked sources, such as quest rewards. You can still keep that material's required quantity in the shopping plan.
Before traveling, group the purchases by merchant and check their locations. A recipe teacher and an ingredient seller serve different jobs: learning the recipe does not imply that the teacher stocks all its materials.
Keep degree, seal and reinforcement separate
On an equipment page, degree and seal describe the item variant. Reinforcement is a separate state of the equipment. An A, B or C used to distinguish equipment variants is not an applied plus level.
Use the equipment comparison to keep the item requirements and variant facts side by side. Neither its purchase price nor its seal alone proves a particular success chance in alchemy.
